I got a text from my 7 year olds school today. After Easter they're going to be offering a LEGO after school class, one day a week.

Seriously, when did school start being so much fun. I went to that exact same national school & we lived in fear of Sr. Vincent and her ruler ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I'm not jealous or anything........

Anyway, my little fella can't wait for it to start and I can't wait to hear what they get up to!

That sounds brilliant. Might be too far of a commute for me though ....

John, I'm visualising you having a tantrum and stomping your feet because you're not allowed to go!!

I'm actually surprised these groups haven't started a destressing/mindfullness/team building thing for adults....

I was checking out Facebook Marketplace today and someone is selling a MOTHERLOAD of LEGO.

I messaged him because I was interested in Downtown Diner but he wants to sell it as a job lot.

That is impressive!

I picked up the diner myself the other day. My first modular.  Itโ€™s on special in Smyths at the moment. I emptied my change jar and lied to my better half about what it cost ๐Ÿ˜‰

Looking forward to building it this weekend.

Had the "I want the house back" conversation rear it's ugly head

That happens regularly in our house. I tend to get the kids to help clear up so itโ€™s not quite as messy. Itโ€™s all their fault really ... ahem! Seriously considering moving house to have a Lego room ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

This might be going off topic but ...

I built my first modular this weekend, Diner 10260.  I really enjoyed it. Lots of detail and picked up a few techniques on the way.

One thing I did notice is that it had a lot of the pieces Iโ€™m always looking for for my MOCs. When you factor in shipping on Bricklink with the pieces Iโ€™m looking for, it works out about half the cost per piece. Is this a good way to buy bricks? Iโ€™m normally very lord business, sets are bagged separately in one location with Lego for MOCs in another.  Iโ€™m afraid Iโ€™ll start twitching if I buy a set just to use for pieces ๐Ÿ˜œ What do you guys do?

Sounds like you need us to tel you get another diner, depending on how many of that specialized brick you need -price per piece usually 10-12 cent per brick but that's price divide by pieces, I can't imagine it's a way of getting the volume of one type of brick without using bricklinkers plus when you use the bits from the set its never going to be complete  and the kraggle could render those pieces unusable

If you don't think the pieces will fall in price in BL soon then it's a good way to source them if also all the other parts are at similar price to BL prices. You are buying a whole set of parts afterall and you may be saving some these sought after parts but paying above the odds for the others. Any example parts?

Tiles, anything in tan, windows and modified bricks were the main parts. Looking at the set, there is a big baseplate and some larger plates as well that would come in handy. Not sure about the pink Cadillac though ... might have to stick that on adverts!

The chief designer of the minifig and some sets in the pirate and castle and space lines passed away  R.I.P. Jens Nygaard Knudsen, died last Wednesday

Very sad news. Set designer Mark Stafford posted these messages on Reddit  (https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/f7bjir/the_father_of_the_lego_minifigure_has_passed_away/)from himself and fellow designer Niels Milan Pedersen:

Quote
On Wednesday former Chief Designer at LEGO, and creator of the LEGO Minifigure Jens Nygaard Knudsen passed away.

Jens hired my colleague Niels in the 1970โ€™s and they worked together until Jens retired in 2000.

Quote
โ€œIt is with great sorrow and dismay that I must announce that an amazing man, the best colleague of many years, an unforgettable friend, the most loving husband, father, father in law and grandfather: Jens Nygaard Knudsen has passed away on 19th February 2020.

Among all those who have worked for, built with, and generally known and loved LEGO over the years Jens should be known and remembered as one of the most important designers ever. He was the man who created the LEGO Minifigure, he was behind all the classic themes: Space, Pirates, Castle, Trains and countless more besides. He was a leader and an inspired builder.

Few have ever had as much imagination and creative power as he and no one who has got to know, or simply met Jens will be able to forget his amazing lovely and positive personality. LEGO fans around the world they should know that perhaps the most important ever creator of the LEGO Universe is no more. Honour his memory. His equal no longer exists.

Jens Nygaard Knudsen, 25 Jan 1942 โ€“ 19 Feb 2020.โ€œ
Niels Milan Pedersen

I (Mark Stafford) only met Jens twice, on both occasions he stuck me as full of energy and enthusiasm for LEGO and designing toys. For example I took him to take a photograph in the LEGO Idea House and he noticed a classic-space model he had designed 30 years earlier was built wrong and just had to stop, get down on his knees and fix it! Jens was made Chief Designer after the success of the minifigure he designed and led the design team throughout the 1980โ€™s and 90โ€™s.

He designed the LEGO Minifigure, and had a hand in pretty much every LEGO theme between 1968 and 2000, including Classic Space (he designed the entire first wave and most of the later models too), Blacktron, Aquanauts, Ice Planet, all the Classic Castle themes, Trains, Pirates, Adventurers etc. He leaves behind his loving wife, three children, two grandchildren and over eight billion little plastic people infused with childhood imaginations.

Millions upon billions of happy childhood memories are owed to this man. Thank you Jens.

Please leave a comment, all of them will be forwarded to his family.

And, if you would like to do something in his memory: build a LEGO spaceship, he would have loved that. Hashtag it as #NygaardMemorialFleet and lets see what we end up with.

Picture frame looks really cool.  My wife and daughter are arguing about whose picture should be in it.  I've a feeling the dog's picture will win ;-)

We bought a normal Ludo board a few years ago and its great fun.  The kids nasty streak is developing nicely :)  The baseplate is dark grey and looks pretty nice so it may need to be swapped out with an old one ...

How's everyone keeping?  Things are bad when I started making the Technic Catamaran that my 8 year old started last November!!  I finished it - but boy do I not like building Technic!!  It's so hard!!

Is anyone currently in the middle of a MOC or anything?  We could do a kind of Build Along where we share regular updates?  So not like MOC of the month stuff - just WIP's?

John I was in Tesco last week - they had a few sets reduced but nothing fantastic.  I haven't left the house in a week (bar to go in the garden) but I'm going to have to brave Tesco for cat food tomorrow (God damn picky cats won't eat Aldi cat food!) - I'll let you know if there are any good offers on LEGO there.

I like the sound of that, should there be a new thread for it? I've been very busy with Technic lately, almost fully sorted all my Technic and I've been tinkering with various mechanisms, most of which have been failures. Got a large vehicle project in mind but trying to figure out how all the functions will work first is a challenge.

It's absolutely filthy but not damaged ,gold coins in chest clean and skeleton in coffin. There was also castle parts but not much -I'm post photos when it's clean -3 plastic bottles full!

John, you need to start an Instagram account (or at least a thread here) of your lego skip finds!!

I'm disgusted and delighted with the find ,I do post when I find treasure (clean-up is hard), I don't get the chance to check these skis -it's only 2 so in reality ,i dread to think how much lego is being dumped every day

3 skips yielding more lego ,1st a friends box with unopened bags (a mall) - 1st and 2nd bags missing but 5 and a few loose parts .2nd was some minecraft and ninjago and a few other bits also unopened bags of m**a s**t blocks(pieces for a demolition video) .3rd bits from many themes, 2 SW minifigs and a motor- the guy told me his grandsons collection is valued at 34grand but judging by what I got and how much more was dumped I'd divide value by 5. The amount of Lego dumped every day nearly keeps me awake but it's just parents with no appreciation for the quality toy that has a fairly long useable life

In lieu of an actual holiday I was looking through last year's holiday photos. I'd completely forgotten about this display in the U.S. Supreme Court, celebrating the first 4 women to serve as Supreme Court Judges:
(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50669108748_56c3be8108_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kcsqKf)

Left to right, I think (only one I'm completely sure of is the late RBG):
Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Justice Elena Kagan

If I find any more Lego photos from around the world I'll post them! Somewhere I've got to try and dig out a photo of a huge Kyoto train station model in Kyoto station...

Apparently the world record for an "unmodified" Rubik's Cube solver robot has just been cut almost in half by a Lego robot called Cuboth, built by Elias Frantar. It averages about 1.9 seconds to solve a cube.

The previous record was also held by a Lego robot called Cubestormer 3. It averaged approximately 3.6 seconds.

More dumped lego and a mix of nexo ,SW and technic , a few plates and a few interesting parts , a little oily but twas loved by a kid by the way the stickers were applied and the minifig with no matching part. A volcano explorers set parts too so modern enough to not be throwing away. Another imperial 2x2 round printed tile,  about 10 years time I'll have a Death Star from my bin foraging

You should do some bin-foraged-only mocs, would be cool to see what you come up with!

Picked\rescued more of the precious today ,badly mangled so only a few of the bricks actually survived. On a scientific note the durability of it versus 10 ton and a loading shovel scraping it into the heap is pretty amazing! It was mostly ninjago and I pulled 1and a half minifigs out.

Haven't bought anything in a while but I was waiting for the Bricklink Designer Program to open, which it has done today! I've just pre-ordered the Great Fishing Boat, I really like the look of it and I supported it at the time it was first submitted to Lego Ideas. Looks like it's going to be second over the line for crowdfunding (first 5 over the line get produced) and it also looks like it'll be sold out in an hour's time at this rate!
Title: Re: The No Particular Topic Topic

I don't get this, lego asks ordinary joes for ideas, dismisses them if they don't make the cut, then gives them another go if they jump through the new hoop, I don't have a budget for this but if you were keeping tabs on Ideas then it's got a market

A few minifigs, a  pirates/imperial flag(no lugs) ,an old style crocodile, a red row boat, and a 3 litre bottle full of bricks. That was the 3rd skip from a house clearout. These kids had mixed it up so lego carried out the other brand ,also found a road scene from the turbo racer era. I watched one episode of the first season a couple of weeks ago and haven't had a chance to get back to it! As well as the great builds, I'm hoping for a bust-up between the obnoxious "I'm kind of a big deal in Lego in Australia" Kale and his downtrodden team mate!

The staple of 90s police sets! I might lean towards 6-wide over 4-wide but these are the perfect motorbikes for me, the recent ones seem much too big.

Cleaning lego that's not really dirty but needing a clean, and seeing bits of sets - number plate denoting sets ,or colour schemes-limegreen  is volcano explorers, parts that look like wings or canopys but not enough parts to complete anything even with the volume I've found, ...example 8159 -yellow car good, red car awful (lowprofile tyres missing-none in my stock....) this will be a cry out to Lisa for wheels please!!!, I'm planning on making a firehospcop building- a firestation ,hospital and police station in one block building

Saw the box and on opening saw "lego " written on some so rescue was ON.The lower left panel is Lego the rest is 3different wastes of money ,one is a plastic meccano style , one a nanosize brick(with a seperator) and then crappyblocks -3 different versions. There's about 50 lego and 2arms  which will assist other injustices. A lot of the bricks a well played so will enter general population but the clean ones will get VIP status

The machine took a lot too , this time I had 2 more helping and it took a while. There's a lot of yellow a I'm hoping it's the highrise crane. There were 2 sails and a tent material .I got a jabba and I think his barge, there's a pirate ship and a city airport and lots of red so must be a fire station. Small rescue and a brickseperator found on second glance. Then 2 duplo pillars and 3 small pieces on the floor before the machine had its dinner! Got some more bricks into water , I was looking for bits to add to the bus and the shack, there's nearly enough to keep me busy at this rate for 2 years, sorry lego group, but you did make a pretty durable product. There was a heavy block ,6x2x3 ,it's the ballast for high rise crane, loadsa yellow so I'd say it's all there ,and wings for big airplane(wing is mildly distorted) so I'll be crane ,plane  shuttleing  as my foreseeable projects. I did also get a boost for my lego fund to 90euro - bigger sets on my radar(at great discounts)

Only grey and fawn bricks left to wash n dry, hall extension and height for the towers - a huffle puff and raven claw rooms and extra library space. As a Brickset user ,the site is shutting down the forum on 4th Nov. Price and lack of traffic to links that potentially earned revenue - eBay and Amazon. For the secret Santa a new platform is being sought but not by Huw from Brickset!

Canabalised a knight bus to complete one -only a grey hairpiece and a 1x4 purple brick for total. I was musing a double axle but canabalised bus has about enough for a car of that era! Also found a stickered part that is the airtaxi 3222. The limo and jet are more impressive but I'll try find the nose and tail and see .Also finished the wash of the hogwash 4842. And the vacant basin is home to Hopefully a falcon .....millennium style!

A disturbance in the force....... I retrieved a train set -not lego or brick type either- and set it up to see if it worked and I AM HOOKED! It makes the chuff chuff sound via the coal carriage, I hope it makes a loop of a tree in a few months . I'd prefer to sell it to restore the balance but twisting the control was addictive. slightly noisy too but the train rush...makes me want to get the Hogwarts Express even more and fire up the other train (white lego  passenger ) aswell

Stickers on door surround detail were nasty - a printed piece for the rounded  ones at least! I'm adding a side hall as the movie room is huge and the box art suggests it too. There's room to add extra clutter with 2x2 bricks and 2x2 jumper tiles.I'll try to go higher but unlike the actual set with clear aerials for support.
