Title: Star Wars sets
Post by: Ew35 on January 29, 2018, 07:26 pm
Hi all! I was wondering if those of you who are into Star Wars could tell me of your favourite sets. I'm building a collection and my method is generally to either find an LXF file for them or to find instructions online (I believe there's a page on the Lego site for them), that way I can order the pieces from Bricklink. It's much cheaper to use bricklink to build discontinued sets as the prices become almost extortionate for older sets, as I'm sure you all know.

Hi @Ew35,

I'm a massive Star Wars fan, and this has followed into the LEGO World.  Now, my favourite set, I'm not quite sure. My wife bought me the Ulimate LEGO Star Wars guide for Xmas, and after flicking through each page, it's quite difficult to distinguish what my favourite is.

I too am building a collection, and I've recently done what you've said.  I've had my eye on a set (or half the set) for quite some time now, but just can't jusitfy the price tag so...

1. I sourced the instructions and parts on Rebrickable.
2. Imported the parts list into Bricklink.
3. Sorted the parts on what I needed, and ordered up.
4. Parts arrived.

The image below should give it away.

I've almost completed the build, so I'll post up finished images soon!

I'd hazard a guess that it might be the Millennium Falcon but I am really not sure. I like the Star Wars theme for all the grey bricks more than anything else. That said I would have a soft spot for Darth Vader (role model after-all) and classic looking stormtroopers.

I'm afraid not David, although it's very much related to Darth Vader (not saying anymore) ;-)

As above, I'll hopefully have the build finished this evening, and will post up the completed piece.

Correct, it's Vader's Tie Advanced from 75150.  I actually prefer this portrayal instead of the 8017 set, I think it looks much more in proportion.

The finished piece, resting with a very basic stand.

I have 8017 myself, but I'm thinking you're correct about the proportions. I might see about getting it myself :P There's a fantastic topic I found months ago that contains an lxf file for pretty much any set you can think of. Its below if anyone is planning on purchasing pieces for an older set. Much cheaper than buying it at retail.

Yes, I would like to pick this up too, it's not bad value considering the mini-figs included. I loved this scene in Revenge of the Sith!

Thanks for the link.  Yes, I only wanted the Tie Advanced from 75150, as I'm all things Dark Side :-)

Out of interest out much did the parts cost you
Title: Re: Star Wars sets

@poo699 £29 for all parts, including postage.

I forgot to purchase the sticker pack for it, approx £0.50, so I plan adding that to my next Bricklink order.

I didn't purchase the Darth Vader minifig from 75150, think it's approx £8 on it's own.

I'm a massive lego star wars fan its so hard to pick a favourite.

The one I want most at the moment though is the Resistance Bomber, it looks so detailed and displayable plus I love the ww2 bomber design of it.

Favourite set I own is probably a tie between the Rogue One y wing because of its level of detail considering its price and also one of my fave Star Wars ships and also my Mon Calamari Home One set which has my all time favourite Rebel ship the green A-wing!

I love TIE's as well especially looking forward to the Han Solo one but I really wish we could get an updated Interceptor or Bomber, the older sets are charming but I really want to see updated ones that match the new TIE colour scheme andw design language.

John, the 75159 Death Star has been calling me a long time too.  Had the chance to pick up before Christmas at £299 in Smyths Toys and decided against it as I was in the hunt for this:

I missed it again when it came back in stock, was gutted! Then I noticed the next day that LEGO were taking back orders, so managed to secure one, and was delivered in super quick time. Having had it over a month, I still haven’t opened it up yet, only the outer packaging.

Can't wait to get stuck in, and plan to prolong and enjoy building it over a period of months!

I've been sitting on the UCS Falcon since Decemeber, although with the long weekend coming up I might break it out!!

I also plan to build this to display the beast - https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-10219/Lucioswitch81/effermans-vertical-stand-for-millennium-falcon-75192/#comments

Me too, think it will really show the Falcon off well, and seems to be strong enough to hold the weight.

The Docking Bay 327 MOC by jmfbtb on Rebrickable is amazing! Potentially another project down the line, but the stand will do nicely for now.

Agree with this too, I've been tempted with the Heavy Walker lately, but would much rather have the Imperial 75054 set!

Aidan, this may swing your decision, 20% discount on Heavy Walker at John Lewis: https://www.johnlewis.com/lego-star-wars-the-last-jedi-75189-first-order-heavy-assault-walker/p3302600

So Star Wars fans, what's the consensus about the new UCS Y-Wing set?

(https://sh-s7-live-s.legocdn.com/is/image/LEGO/75181?id=hPeRX2&fmt=jpg&fit=constrain,1&wid=730&hei=426&qlt=80,1&op_sharpen=0&resMode=sharp2&op_usm=1,1,6,0&iccEmbed=0&printRes=72)

Link: https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Y-Wing-Starfighter-75181

I think it looks great, so much detail but I would like to see something new, a new UCS set we haven't seen yet, e.g UCS AT-AT, so therefore I'm still undecided if I'll purchase this or not.

As a professional TIE pilot with the 501st, I HATE this!

But as someone who is putting together a Y-wing pilot costume for Rebel Legion, I LOVE THIS lol.

In all seriousness though, I think this will be my first UCS set! The Y-wing has always been one of my favourite craft but I could never bring myself to pay the price for the older model since its colours are so bizarre with half the cockpit being white and half of the back end being brown but this newer model, although it seems to share a lot with the older one, is leaps and bounds ahead IMO, the sand blue coloured pieces work perfectly for the canopy section and there is much less brown polluting the back end! (snigger)

This is the first UCS set and indeed the first 'big money' set that I have looked at and thought 'wow' without it being followed up with 'oh wait hmm that looks a bit iffy in some spots' im horrendously picky when it comes to star wars but this looks absolutely perfect to me haha

To someone like me who only recently came out of their dark ages, I am personally in favour or rereleasing some (or all) of the previous UCS sets. It means not paying crazy prices on the secondary market.

I was thinking the same for Slave 1.  I can't see TLG offered the 20% discount on UCS sets.  Most likely the sets that have struggled with sales, e.g. FO AT-ST (such a disappointment IMO) and Heavy Scout Walker.

Having another closer look at the new Y-Wing tonight, it is beautifully put together in places.

I had some spare time this week to complete a set I've had my eye on for quite some time.  I was watching numerous listings on eBay over the past months, and picked this up very cheaply indeed, #75153 AT-ST Walker.  It's not the most stable set, and the legs must be positioned correctly as it's somewhat top-heavy.  I've put together a quick blue greyprint below.

Yes Chris, the RRP is overpriced, although nice mini-figs, especially Phasma!  It's on Amazon UK at the moment, with 35% off. Linky (https://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-Star-Wars-First-Order/dp/B075GHYZ9G)

So I ended up purchasing another set on 4th May, one which has been on my radar for some time now.

Slave 1!

At the time, LEGO were giving a free BB-8 Polybag with all SW purchases, so I picked it up too.

However, and too be honest, I wasn't too bothered about the BB-8 Polybag.  A few weeks earlier to this, the LEGO Store were giving a free Darth Vader Pod with orders > £50 (I really wanted this but I was holding out for something special during the 4th May weekend - sorry BB-8!).  So a quick chat with the LEGO Customer Service advisors (who were great), they sent me the Pod too!

And to top it off, double VIP points too!

Exactly David, not much LEGO for the pricetag, but I read on EB it may be based on weight more than anything. All the minifigs are great, and I do actually like the set.  I think if they had 'rounded' it slightly more and moved the landing pad outside the rooms, it would have looked better, although the landing pad seems poorly done.  Slave 1 and Cloud Car looks great.

Anyone get the 2017 UCS Falcon? Seriously thinking about it...

@Mark73 I have it... but shamefully the seal on the box hasn't been broken yet.  I do plan to build it, but I've been caught up in other projects.

Acquired 75105 - Millennium Falcon (https://shop.lego.com/en-IE/Millennium-Falcon-75105) from a work colleague who wasn't going to finish it.  He'd actually got more then 3/4 of the way through.  Took me 2 hours to break apart and sort what he'd done and then 6 hours to build.

I had thought on selling my 75105 at a stage, so glad I didn't, really enjoyed the build.  They are quite strong money on eBay at present.

Likewise John, I love going back to my childhood sets, breaking them down, rectifying my shoddy building, and sort the parts out for a rebuild, most recently was this:

Although I'm missing a few pieces, will pick them up on next BL order. Anyway, sorry for straying off topic, back to SW :-)
