Title: Contests around the web
Post by: Tom a.k.a. eastawat on July 10, 2020, 09:41 am
For anyone who's interested, the Irish Shows Association is running a contest for Lego creations. There are three categories: Adult, U16 and U10.
Apparently there's no theme, just best original MOC. Submit four work-in-progress photos and five photos of the completed MOC by 4th August.

It's free to enter, and you can only enter once. The winner gets a HD webcam.
Entry page: https://www.irishshows.org/show/application/competition/class/128

Rules: https://www.irishshows.org/virtual-show/virtual-show-rules
Some notable rules:
Photos have to have been taken after the 1st June
All photos have to be in landscape format for some reason

There's a family building competition from LEGO World. They run huge officially recognised Lego shows around Europe.

Sorry for the dodgy translation from Dutch:

LEGO World is said to have celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. As you have known for some time, the health crisis unfortunately means we have to postpone the big party for a year. But don't worry, because we have come up with a super nice alternative for this year! We challenge you from 15 to 21 October with 5 exciting construction assignments that you can complete with your whole family. You also have a chance to win the best prizes.

Register now and don't miss a job!
Are you eager to show your most creative side?
Register now and we will keep you informed of all exciting construction assignments via email.

GET A CHANCE AT THESE FUN LEGO PRIZES
With every assignment you have a chance to win a LEGO package worth 250 euros.
At the end of the week, we also choose a winner from all participants who have successfully completed the 5 assignments.
That lucky guy will go with a LEGO package worth 500 euros and a VIP package at LEGO World 2021 for 4 people!
Please note that minor children require parental consent to participate in this competition.

Link to register: https://legoworldweek.nl/ which unfortunately is also in Dutch! But there's more info:

Every day a LEGO jury chooses the best creation from the top 5 entries in the LEGO Life app* with the most likes. We reward them with a LEGO package worth 250 euros. At the end of the week, the jury will also choose a winner from all participants who have successfully completed the 5 assignments. That lucky guy** will go with a LEGO package worth 500 euros and a VIP package at LEGO World 2021 for 4 people!
If that is not worth doing your best!

* The what? Who knows
** Apparently this is Google Translate being sexist, not the original Dutch!

I don't know what the rules are yet, or the categories. It seems as though you get each one by email daily when the competition starts.
I would have no qualms about signing up to them - (a) they're affiliated or probably even a subdivision of The Lego Group and (b) I've been a subscriber for ages (I was hoping to go to a show this year so I was waiting for tickets to go on sale) and all year I think this is the first time I've actually ever received anything.

If I had a week off work this would be great but unless I can reinvent time I probably won't sign up but the prizes are a great carrot so I could get tempted - and I got a small skip haul recently and they need to earn their keep

The Lego World competition has started, and it seems as though they've published all five days' topics at once. The details, once again in Dutch, are here: https://legoworldweek.nl/

And this is what Google Translate has to say about them:

How to participate?

Get started with one or more assignments.
Take a picture of it.
Upload your creation with #LEGOWorldWeek in the LEGO® Life App before October 22.

1. THE CITY OF TOMORROW (City theme)
Ever dreamed of being the mayor of your own futuristic city? This is your chance! Show us what your city of the future would look like and give it a nice name!

2. HEROES WANTED! (Ninjago theme)
Bad guys have been spotted in Ninjago city. Build a cool dragon with Loyd and Kai to save the city!

3. THE BEST DAY EVER (Friends theme)
What would you like to do with your best friend? Riding*, playing football or would you rather go to an amusement park together? Build your favorite activity and share it in the app.

4. UP A GEAR (Technic theme)
Always wanted to be an F1 driver? This is your chance. Build the racing car of your dreams and even make Max Verstappen jealous! Feel free to take out all possible LEGO blocks!

5. TODAY IS RED! (Basic, Creator or Duplo theme)
Or yellow, or blue ...
Build whatever you like with DUPLO, LEGO or a combination of both, using as many colors as possible. Everything is possible, as long as it is BIG and colorful!

*this sounds a lot more innocent if you've seen the Friends-themed picture that goes with it.

Just downloaded "The Assets".  Even if I never get to design the poster, I have new options for backgrounds in Teams meetings!

Lego Ideas contest: "We love sports! (https://ideas.lego.com/challenges/5c659186-fb0b-46ab-8f9f-e619ccd8bd28?challenge_phase=a337799f-4749-43b0-8eaf-69045a99d909&query=&sort=top)"

Build something to show your love of sports. The winning entry may also be selected to become a set.

Sadly, I've put a lot of thought in the past into ways to make some kind of dodgeball-related creation and it's just not a sport that lends itself to interesting Lego designs, so I'll just have to find another sport to devote my love to for the next month if I want to enter this contest!
